Installing Hyper-V and setting up SQL Server 2014 VM on Windows 10

Prerequisites Win 10 Pro – OK

  1. Enable virtualisation in BIOS
  2. Verify Hardware compatibibility with systeminfo.exe => all Hyper-V requirements must be set to Yes
  3. Windows Features: Turn Hyper-V on and Restart
  4. Hyper-V|Virtual Switch Manager|New virtual Switch (external)|OK
  5. Hyper-V|Virtual Manager|New Virtual machine…
    1. Name it
    2. Generation 2
    3. 1024 MB RAM (because I have not enough to make it 2 GB)
    4. select virtual switch created before
    5. Set size to 50 GB
    6. Install image from a bootable image file
  6. Start and “Press any key to install from bootable DVD…”
  7. Install Windows Server 2012 R2
  8. Install SQL Server 2014/rename downloaded img file to iso
